When One Income Was Enough: Remembering Life Before It Became a Chore

There was a time when life felt doable. A time when one parent went to work, the other raised the kids, and the family had dinner together every night. A time when the mortgage wasn’t a death sentence, and groceries didn’t cost a small fortune. A time when a childhood felt like a childhood—not a countdown to financial stress.

That time wasn’t perfect. But it was human. It was the 1970s. The 1980s. A window of life where the world still had its flaws, but there was still breath in the system.

Now? In 2025? Life has become a chore.

A single income no longer supports a family. In fact, two or three incomes often aren’t enough. Kids in their 20s, 30s, even 40s are still living at home. Not because they’re lazy. Not because they’re immature. But because the Matrix has made independence nearly impossible.

Everything is inflated. Not just the prices—the pressure. The emotional weight. The spiritual exhaustion. The sense that no matter how hard you work, you’re still behind.

And that’s not by accident.

The system was designed to drain you. To keep you so busy surviving that you stop questioning why you’re so tired all the time. You don’t have time to rebel when you’re trying to pay rent. You don’t have energy to dream when you’re calculating gas mileage against grocery bills.

This isn’t life. This is captivity dressed up as adulthood.

But here’s the thing: we remember.

We remember riding bikes until the street lights came on. We remember TV shows with morals. We remember going out for breakfast as a treat, not a transaction. We remember when families talked around the dinner table—not around their phones.

And the reason this memory matters? Because once you remember what real life felt like, you stop settling for its imitation.

You start to pull back. You start to reclaim sacred moments. You stop apologizing for needing rest. You stop playing the game that was always rigged against you.

This post is your permission to say:

“I remember. And I refuse to normalize the madness.”

We’ll go deeper. We’ll talk about what changed. And we’ll plant the seed of what comes next. Because you weren’t born to just survive. You were born to live.
